On Monday, the Wharton Internet Marketing Discussion Group met to talk about using YouTube to promote your business, civic group, or charitable organization. YouTube has many uses for marketing, and some we mentioned were:
- Product or Service Information Videos. Give demonstrations of products or show customers how your services work.
- Customer Testimonials. Ask your customers to talk about their experiences with your company and video their recommendations.
- Business Introduction or Welcome Videos. Create a short welcome or introduction video by the business owner and place it on the home page.
One of the nice things about using YouTube for your videos is that you don’t have to host the videos on your server. That means the bandwidth you buy each month to support your website doesn’t have to account for video downloads. When you embed a YouTube video in your website or a blog post, the video is being hosted by YouTube and is called from YouTube’s server — it’s YouTube’s bandwidth that’s being used. YouTube, owned by Google, can afford to provide you with free video bandwidth.
Another nice thing about using YouTube is that you can set video titles, descriptions and tags for your videos that highlight the relevant keywords associated with the video. So your YouTube videos can also do well in search results and can funnel Web traffic to your website and your business. Of course, that only happens if you take the time to write a full description of your video and use your business name in the title. You can edit and update your tags and descriptions at any time online at YouTube.com. If you take a little time and think about what you want to convey with your video and whom you want to reach, your YouTube videos can do wonderful marketing work for your business.
YouTube videos are one of those free business marketing capabilities provided by the Internet and YouTube that very few people take advantage of. Make it different for your business. Start using YouTube videos to promote your products and services and begin using video testimonials from your customers. I guarantee that if you don’t, your competitors will!
